Friuli-Venezia-Giulia Beaches

Discover Friuli-Venezia-Giulia and its best beaches

Friuli-Venezia Giulia is a region located in north-eastern Italy, bordering Austria, Slovenia, and the Adriatic Sea. The region is known for its beautiful landscapes, ranging from mountains to plains, hills, and coasts.
The Julian Alps mountain range is one of the main attractions of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, where some of the most beautiful lakes in the region are located, such as Lake Fusine and Lake Predil.
The Friulian plain is another distinctive feature of the Friulian landscape. Characterized by cultivated fields, vineyards, and forests, it is an ideal area for walking and cycling.
The Adriatic coast is also an important attraction of the region, thanks in part to the city of Trieste, which is one of the main tourist destinations on the coast, rich in beautiful squares, historic buildings, and a lively cultural scene.

Its geographical location makes it perfect for those who love the sea and beaches, although they are not among the most famous in the Adriatic (except for Lignano Sabbiadoro). The coastlines are numerous and varied: from the long sandy beaches of the westernmost part of the coast to the dunes and cliffs of the Trieste area, more eastern: a collection that offers remarkable coastal landscapes.
As mentioned, the best-known beach in Friuli-Venezia Giulia is undoubtedly Lignano Sabbiadoro, the largest in the region. It extends for 8 km, separated from the hinterland by numerous accommodation facilities and holiday homes or the shady pine forest. Divided by various bathing establishments, the shallow seabed makes it perfect for families with children.

For a different context, you can opt for the coves of Sistiana or Duino Aurisina, both in the province of Trieste, where pebbles, cliffs, and a rather suggestive natural environment, made up of lush vegetation typical of the Mediterranean scrub, give a wilder aspect to the landscape.
Finally, particularly characteristic are the Vallone di Muggia, on the border with Slovenia, with the historic centre and the port of San Rocco, which is one of the main ports on the Adriatic, and Marano Lagunare, the northernmost place in the Mediterranean. A paradise for birdwatchers, it is a place whose history and culture are closely linked to the Republic of Venice.
